Three Perks of Being a Homeschooler

Kids in school do not really think about the perks of being a homeschooler, but there are many. Those I’m listing are directed at kids, but some could be toward adults also. One perk I never had the pleasure of getting is quiet siblings. However, these other perks are ones that I did experience.

  1. Field Trips:

My dad and mom take me and my three other siblings on field trips often. It could even be a movie and it will still have a lesson to go with it (most often about race). When you are homeschooled, you have the opportunity to go places to learn in different ways. Science class could be at a science center or just something outside. History could be at any museum that teaches the truth about history such as Detroit’s African American Museum as my dad would take all of us and that would be our history lesson or maybe our only schoolwork for that day.

  1. No Bullying:

You hear a lot about bullying in schools, and how it is a big problem. But when you are homeschooled, you do not have to worry about being bullied in school. There is a lot of bullying programs to help stop bullying, but they cannot stop bullying in school. If it continues to go on in school and the school cannot solve the problem, one solution is to homeschool your child.

  1. Flexibility:

You will have time to get your work done, and then head to the pool afterward! You can go get ice cream, go for a bike ride, or stay inside and sleep. What I am trying to say is that you have a flexible time schedule, you can do more than many kids in school. If you are lucky, you might be able to wake up when you want to depending on what your school schedule is.

These are just some of the perks of being homeschooled. There are some advantages to being in school, but if I went to school this would certainly make me want to be homeschooled. So being homeschooled is not as bad as people might think.

  1. Sadly, on the rare occasion, we’ve still experienced bullying. However, we find these times to be few and far between. We also have the ability to have more control over each situation.

    Great post!
